Welcome!
For many decades Keene United Church has partnered with Hiawatha United Church to address the spiritual needs of people in our communities.
We are grateful for the teachings of the First Peoples of Turtle Island, who have been here since time immemorial – living, loving and caring for the lands and waters that we and other creatures share.
As a church, we take to heart our responsibility to learn more about the truth of our history. We seek to honour the richness of indigenous culture and spirituality. And we strive to walk together into a future based on respectful and healthy relationships.
As a Christian denomination, we see God's love revealed to us in the stories of Jesus. We seek to follow his teachings and to rely on the gifts of God's Spirit to guide us in our lives. We invite others to join us on this journey of discovering our passions and gifts as we offer them in many ways for the benefit of our community and world.
Many people have commented that upon entering the 200-year-old village of Keene, they see the steeple of Keene United Church and feel a sense of home. The physical building (built in 1884) has been the gathering place for many milestones in the lives of our families and we create the space for the wider community to know of God's love. A love extended not only to those who gather on a regular basis but for those we meet throughout the week at home or work or school or play.
Whatever brought you to this site, may you find within our story of faith, a message of God's love for you, the desire of healthy and respectful relationships and a curiosity to explore what our community could look like if we boldly follow Jesus' teachings of justice, equity and compassion. Whether your relationship to this church is via this website or you participate in Zoom or in person worship or you take part in other mid-week activities, may you truly feel welcome here in this "your second home in the heart of Keene."
